Located on Gandía beach, 45 minutes walk from the port, we find what is probably the most chic restaurant in Gandía and for me, the best in the area. The Asombro Garden Grill opened its doors in 2018 offering a variety of aged meats with designation of origin, cooked on the grill. As they mention on their website and from what we were able to talk to the boss, their approach is different from that of typical coastal restaurants: they do not seek Michelin stars, but rather they bet on top quality products . In addition to the selection of meats, they offer elaborate and very tasty starters, salads and homemade desserts.
To start talking about this pleasant place, we must begin by mentioning its main protagonist: the terrace surrounded by trees, flowers, bamboo, lamps and vines. This place turns the experience into a magical evening while you enjoy its delicious food. The terrace is ideal for summer nights, although you can enjoy it all year round as they adapt it to the season you are in. The interior of the restaurant is also very pleasant, although I recommend booking on the terrace . This also has a secluded area, which the boss calls the "first dates" corner in case you want to enjoy a more intimate dinner with your partner.
Starters
For starters we decided on 3 dishes to share: Steak tartar of old cow sirloin, piquillo peppers (4 units) stuffed with cow sirloin and the avocado salad , prawns and French mustard sauce. The steak tartar was very good, I wouldn't add it to my list of the best I've tried but I would repeat it. Between the peppers and the salad I wouldn't know which I would prefer, I would recommend both dishes without hesitation and they were the best we tried that day. It is highly recommended to ask for a little more bread to be able to enjoy the tasty sauce of the peppers.
Main courses
As for the main course, I decided on the 9-month-aged tenderloin . It was an excellent choice as the piece was perfectly sealed on the grill and when cutting the meat, its juiciness turned an intense pink, indicating a precise and respectful cooking of the product. When eating, the tenderloin melted in the mouth, demonstrating its great quality. I also tried the veal entrecote, which was tasty but nothing special.
This restaurant was definitely one of the best I've tried in the Gandía area, although there are always cheaper and equally exceptional options for local dishes. At El Asombro you are paying for the great quality of the raw materials but also for the atmosphere and the experience.
