Welcome to an earthly paradise where sun, sea and history intertwine in a symphony of beauty and culture. Gran Canaria, the third largest island in the Canary Islands, is a captivating destination with its breathtaking landscapes, dream beaches and rich cultural heritage.
Situated in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, Gran Canaria is much more than just a world-renowned tourist destination. With its subtropical climate, the island offers pleasant weather all year round, making it an ideal destination in any season. From its capital, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, to the picturesque villages that dot its coastline and mountainous interior, this island has something for everyone.
Read on to discover some of the most special corners of Gran Canaria as well as restaurants and more.
Magic towns
The island of Gran Canaria has several picturesque villages that add to the beach tourism and offer a more rural option for your visit to the island.
Tejeda
According to the association The Most Beautiful Villages in Spain , Tejeda is one of the most beautiful villages in our country. The town is located in what, for me, is one of the most spectacular areas of the island since this municipality is home to the famous Caldera de Tejeda, a unique volcanic formation that houses two monumental rocks: the emblematic Roque Nublo and the Roque Bentayga, geological symbols of the island.
Tejeda is a town that is well worth visiting. What impressed me most was its location, its architecture, the hospitality of the locals and its views. It is recommended to walk around the town until you get lost in its narrow streets and have a sweet treat at Dulcería Nublo , but go hungry! Agaete
Agaete is located in the northwest of the island and represents a complete change from other towns such as Tejeda. It may remind you of a white village in Andalusia with the added bonus of being located in a volcanic valley that makes you think you are on Mars or in the old West.
If it's a clear day, you can see Teide from Agaete itself. It is highly recommended to watch the sunset to see how the sun sets over Teide. One recommendation is to go to the terrace of the Occidental Roca Negra hotel at sunset.
Afterwards we went to dinner at Bar restaurante Terraza Angor , a place with local cuisine located in the port, which we will talk about in more depth in the following lines.
Restaurants
Canarian gastronomy has surprised me quite a bit, as it offers the best of the peninsula with an added bonus of Canarian food that is very good. Gran Canaria has a wide variety of restaurants, of all types and at all prices. Among them, there are three Michelin-starred restaurants in 2024. These are some of the restaurants that we liked the most:
Basal Grill & Beach
It belongs to the Allende Group , a well-known restaurant group on the island.
- Quality: 8/10
- Atmosphere: 8/10
- Price: 7/10
La Cilla Restaurant
Built in a cave, simply spectacular. One of those places that is worth going to just for the views. To get to the restaurant you will have to go through a cave-like corridor until you reach the terrace, with spectacular views of the Roque Nublo and Roque Bentayga. The restaurant has some "private rooms" that go even further into the rock and is decorated with chill-out style light bulbs and vines hanging from the rock. - Quality: 7/10
- Atmosphere: 10/10

Angor Terrace Restaurant Bar
Typical beach restaurant, with tablecloths and seafood dishes. Good place if you are looking for a bit of atmosphere in the port area of Agaete with delicious and hearty dishes.
- Quality: 7/10
- Atmosphere: 7/10
- Price: 8/10
Other special places
Rooftop & Aloe Terrace
The terrace of the Aloe hotel in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is a magical place from where you can enjoy unbeatable views of Las Canteras beach in the island's capital. From this terrace, you can also see Teide if the weather permits.
Discotheque Alboroto
As for nightlife, Alboroto is the trendy nightclub for 2024. This nightclub located in the old town of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria has a price of €15 for one drink or €20 for two drinks. The terrace is one of the best things about the club, although the interior is not bad at all. Great atmosphere and good music.
